Collected in 30 Gallon Paper Bags ONLY-
Yard debris paper bags are available at local hardware and home centers
as well as some grocery stores . These bags compost with the yard debris,
and therefore are the only bags accepted. (No Plastic Bags) Because they
are paper, they are subject to damage from rain, as well as wet debris.
Bags must be kept dry until the day of pick-up to avoid the bottom falling
out. Bags that get wet, will not support the weight and therefore will
not be collected.
Yard debris is collected weekly during the months of May,
October 19-December 4th and (along with Christmas Tree collection in Jan.)
Yard waste can be dropped off at the Transfer And Recycling
Facility, located behind the American Legion Hall, 850 Fall River Ave.
The facility is open between the hours of 8:00am and 3:30pm Monday through
Friday, (excluding holidays)as well as the second and fourth Saturday
of the month from 8am to Noon. All of the following limitations apply
to the facility as to size and material restrictions. Paper bags are not
a requirement for drop-off. Plastic bags may be used however must be emptied,
and disposed of properly.
Bundles-
Bundles must be tied securely with string or twine. Do NOT tie with
wire. Bundles cannot exceed 24 inches in length with
a maximum material width of one and a half inches.
Is it debris, or not?
Anything that grows in your yard including weeds, leaves, vines, fallen
fruit, grass clippings, prunings, as well as vegetables from a garden,
are all yard waste and are accepted. Some things may appear to grow in
our yards. That does not automatically make it “Yard Debris.”
DO NOT INCLUDE Over- sized branches, logs, stumps, household
garbage, metal of any kind, rocks, soil, ashes, or animal waste, as well
as any items that may be used in gardening or planting, such as pots,
flats, fertilizer and seed bags, and the like. Any of these items will
likely damage the machine used, or contaminate the compost produced.
Things to consider-
Anything that is placed curb side for collection is subject to weight restrictions.
A maximum of 45lbs for a bag or bundle is the limit. A maximum of 15 bags will
be picked up at one time. Try to avoid filling the bag curb side, as that is
usually the time that bags are overfilled. Items such as fruit, can be very
heavy. More than likely you will need to use many bags to dispose of these items
to avoid being overweight. If you have a difficult time moving it, chances are
so will we, as the bags need to be lifted to be deposited in the collection
truck.
